After my first exposure to resistance bands workouts and then deciding to look into it in more detail as I wanted to see how effective they would be for me. What I found out about resistance bands and resistance bands workouts surprised me.

As I mentioned in a previous post my initial response was pretty sceptical – I am a gym member and swim train with triathletes 3 times a week – in short I am used to hard work! I also have no time at all for gimmicks or anything that I think will damage one part of my body for the sake of another – I am a bit of a nerd when it comes to body mechanics!
Resistance bands come in a variety of different “strengths” which is great as different resistant band exercises will require different levels of resistance. For example, a chest press movement will require more resistance than a bicep curl movement.
I found that resistance bands are extremely versatile and very portable which allows them to be carried whilst travelling without adding any significant weight to your luggage. Another fact I really like is that resistance bands workouts can be as intensive as you wish to make them. You can do a circuit style set with almost no rest – by that I mean a group of resistance band exercises done one after another and then repeated after a defined rest period. There is also no hanging around waiting for free equipment and you can transition from one exercise to another in seconds – so there really is no excuse to getting a pretty effective resistance bands workout.

As with anything in life, rather than having to work out all the different exercises etc that is possible with resistance bands, I decided to find someone that is already an expert in the field. I believe this process is called “modelling” – which is essentially find someone or group of people that are experts already in what you are interested in and copy them as closely as possible and you should experience pretty similar results. Whilst I am pretty knowledgeable about exercise and workouts from a gym perspective I knew nothing about resistance bands workouts – so I decided to go with the guy whose videos on YouTube I liked. His name is Mark Roulston and his routines and depth of knowledge on the subject are great. There are 65 exercises that are illustrated and over 20 progressively harder workouts to do.
Fitness workouts with resistance bands are time effective, affordable and enjoyable. Mike will show you what you need to know and precisely what to do yourself to get started with your own resistance bands workouts.
I should point out that resistance bands for workouts should NOT be used to launch water bombs or any other type of missile – I have seen it done on holiday and whilst impressive it broke the window of a neighbouring house!
